A shipwreck first noted in 2019 on the seabed off Beachy Head has been visited over the last few years by a team of archaeologists, led by Mark Beattie-Edwards. The team have been searching for the identity of the ship and its crew. Through a puzzle of submerged timbers, artefacts and old documents, the clues have been pieced together to reveal the name of the unlucky vessel, and the story of its last voyage.
Dr. Peter Marsden gave us a fascinating talk on the 1690 Battle of Beachy Head and the wreck of the Anne, a British naval warship that was damaged during the battle and has spent the last three hundred years in the sand on Pett Level beach.
